The universe is a big place.
That may just be the biggest understatement you’ll encounter today. The universe is unimaginably big. Its numbers are simply incomprehensible to us.
Today’s FamilyFirst site is an unusual pick for me. It’s simply a single video. And my apologies to those accessing through dial-up. But when IU saw this humbling presentation, I knew that today’s FamilyFirst site had been decided.
The site is called The Hubble Deep Field: The Most Important Image Ever Taken.

In 1995, and again in 2003, the Hubble telescope focused on a couple of patches of unspectacular sky for long periods of time, over ten days. This allowed extremely faint objects to be detected.
Mind you, parts of the sky the width of a dime 75 feet away were intensely photographed. Imagine that small a piece of the sky at night.
In that teeny patch of sky, at least 10,000 galaxies were observed.
(pause for effect)
Whether you use this knowledge of the vastness of the universe to bolster your religious faith (as I do) or prefer to believe that it is a confirmation of a colossal random explosion, it’s still a mind-boggling fact.
Our pick today is a movie about six and a half minutes long. Sit through the whole thing. When it’s over, you’ll view the vastness of the universe a bit differently.
